Michele Rubin has worked for 46 years as a nurse and APRN clinical nurse specialist at the University of Chicago all in various IBD roles inpatient, leadership, research and currently in ambulatory colorectal surgery. She manages pre and postoperative care for surgical patients and manages a J-pouch surveillance clinic to ensure good pouch function and a better quality of life. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on IBD and has lectured nationally and internationally on IBD at the National and International Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Advances in IBD, American Society of Colorectal surgery, Society of Gastrointestinal Nurses and the Infusion Nurses conferences. She has been a longtime member of the National Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and was previously one of the first nurse representatives on the Board of Trustees. She was a past Chair of the Nurse and APP committee and continues as a member. She also chairs the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s IBD APP preceptorship program since 2018 and is the director of the Chicago Preceptorship program at the University of Chicago. She has numerous honors from the Crohn’s and colitis foundation for participation and leadership in various committee programs. She also received the esteemed National GEM award for Giving Excellence Meaning for her career and dedication to nursing.
