Dr. Ungaro is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Clinical Research for the Division of Gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He is a physician-investigator with experience conducting clinical and translational research in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with a focus on clinical trials and developing clinical and molecular predictors of disease onset, disease course, and response to therapy in early IBD. In addition, he was a co-founder of the Surveillance Epidemiology of Coronavirus Under Research Exclusion (SECURE-IBD) international registry, developed the Comprehensive Care for the Recently Diagnosed IBD Patient (COMPASS-IBD) program at the Mount Sinai IBD Center, a multidisciplinary care program in early IBD with a linked biospecimen registry, and is on the steering committee of the Proteomic Evaluation and Discovery in an IBD Cohort of Tri-service Subjects (PREDICTS) cohort which is uncovering biomarkers that can predict the development of IBD in healthy individuals with the ultimate goal of disease interception and prevention.
