Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York
Dr. Ullman is a Professor of Medicine in Mount Sinai’s Department of Medicine and the Director of the Westchester branch of Mount Sinai’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. He received his medical degree from Weil/Cornell University Medical College in 1992 and stayed to complete his residency in internal medicine at the New York Hospital. This was followed by a GI fellowship at Yale University where he developed his interest in caring for patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis during an away elective at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Ullman first joined the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 1999, pursuing state of the art clinical care of IBD patients and research questions pertaining to the relationship between IBD and colorectal cancer. He went on to become Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine before returning to Mount Sinai to open its Westchester IBD Center. Among other items, Dr. Ullman has led national efforts to improve quality of care in IBD. He has more than 100 peer reviewed publications and book chapters relating to IBD care as well having lectured broadly locally, nationally, and internationally on numerous IBD topics to colleagues and patients. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gstroenterology and presently its Governor for Southern New York, an American Gastroenterological Association Fellow, and a previous member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s National Scientific Advisory Committee, having chaired its Professional Education Committee, its Membership Committee, and its Government and Industry Affairs Committee in support of its mission. He was previously a longstanding Board member of the Foundation’s Westchester-Fairfield chapter. The Foundation has also twice honored him with Humanitarian of the Year Awards at both its Greater New York and Westchester-based Chapters. Prior to his return to Mount Sinai, he was the Chief of Gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Prior to those responsibilities, he was the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Mount Sinai’s Doctors Faculty Practice. He has been recognized as a New York Magazine and Castle Connolly Top Doctor in gastroenterology numerous times.
