Fernando Velayos is a gastroenterologist who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease and currently serves as chief of Gastroenterology at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. He served as professor of medicine and co-medical director of the Center for Crohn’s and Colitis at the University of California, San Francisco before joining Kaiser Permanente Northern California as the director of the regional program for inflammatory bowel disease. Fernando Velayos is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF) and immediate past chair for the AGA section on Immunology, Microbiology, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IMIBD). He has served on the editorial board of several GI journals. His clinical and research interests involve clinical trials of novel therapies to treat IBD, population health strategies for managing IBD, and the prevention of colon cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
