Professor
Johns Hopkins
Dr. Selaru is a Professor of Medicine, Biomedical Engineering and Oncology, and a member in the Division of Gastroenterology as well in the Institute of Nanobiotechnology at Johns Hopkins University. He is the Atran Family Professor in IBD Research, a clinical expert in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and the Director of the IBD Center at Johns Hopkins. He established and leads an NIH funded laboratory at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Selaru’s interest and area of expertise is bio-engineering approaches to answer clinically relevant questions and to translate findings to patients. His research is at the intersection of clinical medicine, engineering and biology. The main areas of interest are:
(A) Drug development and formulation for fibrotic diseases with focus on fibrostenosing Crohn’s disease.
(B) Drug development and formulation for oral, GI tract delivery, including the development of autonomous micro-robots for drug delivery to areas of inflammation in the GI tract
(C) Development of novel biomimetic materials for use in perianal fistulas in Crohn’s
The Selaru group is currently funded by the Helmsley Trust, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.
