Dr. Mahmut Demirturk is a passionate physician-scientist who hopes to unravel the complexities of inflammatory bowel diseases. His keen curiosity for science sparked early in his childhood, which later blended with his love for medicine.
As a physician, his career has taken him through high-volume hospitals in Turkey into the realm of academic medicine in the U.S., where he’s exploring the intricate world of inflammatory bowel diseases at Emory University. He focuses on gut mucosal immunity and ulcerative colitis. Beyond clinic and lab, he is an avid Formula 1 fan, a former pro basketball player, and a music enthusiast.
With the ultimate goal of becoming a gastroenterologist, he is ready for the next chapter in his life: internal medicine residency.
